The Rangers penalty and red card anomalies compared to Celtic’s

If VAR has done anything for Celtic and Rangers fans it’s that it has put refereeing and the SFA right at the focus of all football fans’ attention.

The Ibrox club seem to be the only club that receives an advantage ever since the new technology was brought in and the pattern of assistance Rangers get is now being finally spoken about.

Stuart Kettlewell, David Martindale and Barry Robson have all spoken out about this ever since their teams were affected by wrong VAR calls.

And after the Hearts VAR controversy just over three weeks ago, Dermot Desmond is now taking an active role in highlighting it’s deficiencies to the SFA ever since Brendan Rodgers was cited for calling out John Beaton’s role in Celtic’s Tynecastle defeat.

But this has been going on for a number of years prior to this season and social media account, Lint, has highlighted some excellent stats that show just how much an advantage the Ibrox club get over penalties and red cards over Celtic.

That really is quite stunning and worrying. But I suppose we can take comfort in the fact that despite these stats, Celtic have still remained Scotland’s most dominant club.

What it also shows is that the Ibrox club do not get anywhere near the advantage they get in Europe like the one they enjoy in Scotland whilst Celtic’s refereeing stats remain fairly constant.

Pattern of assistance, honest mistakes, human error. Call it what you like but there is definitely something not right about how Rangers are officiated in the Scottish Premiership compared to the rest of the teams in the division.
