‘He’s got a tackle in him’ – Surprising suggestion for perfect partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic

Celtic’s defensive issues this season have spanned more than just our injury issues.

Cameron Carter-Vickers has faced quite a spell on the sidelines as have Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh.

But on top of that, the ever-reliable Liam Scales has seen a drop in form which is only natural considering he has been an ever-present in the Celtic team under Brendan Rodgers.

So that leads to a huge question. If Carter-Vickers remains fit, who should the Celtic manager choose to partner up with him after the split?

A Celtic State of Mind‘s, Jerry Taylor believes he has the answer and the name he suggests is very surprising.

Gustaf Lagerbielke should be given his chance at Celtic

The reason why I say that Jerry suggesting Gustaf Lagerbielke is surprising is not because I don’t agree with him, it’s solely down to the fact that Rodgers clearly doesn’t fancy him.

Taylor said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I think if you watch how he is, he’s so passionate. His energy is so high when he’s on the pitch.

“He’s got a goal in him and he’s got to tackle in him and he does try to drive forward as well. And the international experience [he has].

“I think he ticks a lot more boxes than all the other guys.”

I actually like the Swedish international and I believe he should be given a chance. But now that we are approaching the business end of the season I simply cannot see how Rodgers will trust a player he has basically told has no future at the club.

But then, that happened to Scales and look where he is now. Lagerbielke is not a bad player. Voted as Sweden’s Best Defender last year proves that.

It’s simply down to Rodgers and how he feels the Swede fits into his side and unfortunately for Lagerbielke it seems like the Celtic manager’s mind is already made up.
