“Terrible”, “Absolute farce” – Celtic fans are livid with a rumour they are hearing about one of their players

Brendan Rodgers has told this week of his need to add quality to his Celtic side after the Champions League win against Feyenoord.

With a heavily depleted side, Celtic still managed to overcome the Dutch champions to get that long-awaited win in Europe’s top competition.

But to add quality you need to spend money. And that’s exactly what the Celtic manager did when he spent £3m on Gustaf Lagerbielke.

The Swede scored the winner midweek and must have thought that his fortunes were turning at Celtic. Turns out they are but not the way he wants them to.

Stephen McGowan claims Gustaf Lagerbielke will leave Celtic in January

The Daily Mail reporter is usually spot with his exclusives about Celtic and last night he published this:

It’s quite an incredible story but also a damning verdict on Celtic’s recruitment strategy of late. And the Celtic fans are absolutely fuming with this news.

On the Daily Mail’s thread on X, one Celtic fan took aim at the club’s recruitment team, “That’s an awful indictment on the recruitment structure at Celtic. Looks terrible.”

Another said, “What an absolute farce by Celtic……pretty much sums up their recruitment this season……why not keep him and get rid of Welsh who has been there for years and not done much.”

Whilst another was more balanced in his views, “Guy scores one goal, we don’t see him in training. I’m sure BR knows what he is doing.”

One Celtic fan even offered up an idea of a replacement when he said, “Scott McKenna anyone?”, although I do think it was a tongue-in-cheek comment.

One thing is for sure, as well as this rumour being very strange, it is baffling how Rodgers can sign off on a £3m player and then decide that he’s not good enough less than six months later.

Especially when that player won the Best Defender in Sweden award just last month.

Something doesn’t quite add up here and it’s time the Celtic fans got some real answers from Rodgers and the board.
