A Maik Nawrocki question has been asked and it focused criticism on one of Celtic’s best players this season

Celtic defender, Maik Nawrocki

The disappearance of Maik Nawrocki from existence at Celtic after his £4.3m move from Legia Warsaw is one that has left the fans feeling perplexed.

Admittedly, injury hampered the start of Nawrocki‘s career but now that he has fully recovered, he still can’t even make the Celtic bench.

A question about Nawrocki by Paul John Dykes was asked on social media today on whether he could form a partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers and it had the Pole trending as the Celtic fans had their say.

Dykes posted on X, “Fully expected Nawrocki to build a central defensive partnership with CCV when he arrived 7 months ago.

“Injuries to CCV and the resurgence of Scales has prevented this from developing so far. Is it a pairing that could work in the run-in?”

Has Liam Scales fallen out of favour with the Celtic fans?

The Irish defender has been a stalwart this season and when Brendan Rodgers really needed him, he stepped up to the plate.

There is a general feeling that whilst we all agree he has done well for Celtic this season, he might not have enough quality to take us forward in Europe.

And that seems to be the general feeling amongst the Celtic fans on this thread.

“Scales should’ve been dropped in January. He’s a liability. Constantly beaten by the ball in behind and loses his man at crosses. McGregor is the key problem. He’s not showing for the ball and needs to be dropped.”

“As much as I like Scales and Welsh the only time either should start is as cover for CCV and Nawrocki..Scales gets too much of the ball and constantly slows things down ..great lads but as cover only ..Hail Hail”

“Enjoy show most of the time but sick to the stomach of support accepting mediocrity, Scales was, is and always will be mediocre. Unacceptable! We need a fiercely powerful CB with pace and comfortable on the ball. Recruitment is shambolic, pace and physicality are needed. Killie bullied us.”

“As much as I applaud Scales and the way he has resurrected his Celtic career, he is ponderous on the ball and not suited to the way we (should) play. If Taylor isn’t available, he should be at left back rather than Bernabei (who shouldn’t kick a ball for Celtic again)”

To offer some balance and fairness to Scales, he hasn’t had a settled partnership in the heart of the Celtic defence so getting some consistency from him was always going to be difficult.

With a new contract seemingly on the way, it seems that the Irishman may well be a Celtic player for some time with many believing he should only be backup, nothing more.
