‘Obviously’ – A theory floated of what Brendan Rodgers really thinks of Maik Nawrocki at Celtic

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic’s summer business has been lambasted over the course of this season as Brendan Rodgers continues to dismiss all but one of his summer recruits.

Luis Palma is the only player of note who the Celtic manager seems to really rate. The Honduran has made 30 appearances this season scoring nine goals and creating ten. (Transfermarkt)

With Marco Tilio and Hyeokyu Kwon already out on loan and Gustaf Lagerbielke almost shown the Celtic exit door in January, the fans are wondering just what is going on with the club’s recruitment.

But it’s the curious case of Maik Nawrocki that has captured the imagination of the Celtic support. The club’s most expensive summer signing at £4.3m, the Polish defender has barely featured under Brendan Rodgers.

There was a theory floated earlier this season that the Pole simply was not doing it in training and Rodgers just wasn’t impressed.

However, John ‘Yogi’ Hughes has floated another, more simple, theory as to why the Hoops gaffer isn’t picking Nawrocki on A Celtic State of Mind.

Brendan Rodgers simply doesn’t like Maik Nawrocki

After signing off spending over £4m on the defender, questions have been asked about the purchase of Nawrocki but it seems that Rodgers simply doesn’t like the Celtic stopper.

Hughes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “The manager’s not convinced. The fact that we’ve persisted with Scales and Welsh just really shows you what the manager thinks. He doesn’t like him, obviously.

“I thought when the Nawrocki came on against Rangers when I was at that game, for 5-10 minutes he played, I was just like, ‘This guy is a bomb scare.’

“He’s an absolute bomb scare. And then he came up with a couple of decent tackles then he settled into the game pretty well.”

Nawrocki has done okay whenever I have seen him in the green and white hoops and whilst Big John is correct, he did struggle at first when he came on at Ibrox.

Currently injured at the moment, Nawrocki is out of the team due to factors he cannot control but when he recovers, will he go straight into the matchday squad?

Only Brendan Rodgers can answer that question and the Celtic fans will be looking out for it.

  1. Personally don’t believe rocki is the worst option as a back up for CCV imo?
The concerning factor has been just how injury prone both CCV and rocki have been this season.
On the bigger picture, we currently could be looking at 5CB with CCV, rocki, Welsh, scales and lawal added next season with the positional added bonus that lawal could possibly play the defensive midfield role also?
Wouldn’t be overly concerned if the 5CB places should unfold in that manner, but still a concern regarding the left-hand side of a CB pairing, especially without another left sided CB in place if scales is unavailable?
It has been a problem area all season within the team without a proper CB partnership in place for long periods of the season?
Plenty of options tried but still haven’t found the stability that a CCV and Starfelt bought ourselves yet?
So even though there could be available options in the making in the CB partnership pairings, we are still missing that stability factor?
Still a potential problem in the making for ourselves this season yet, but hopefully we can get it sorted out in a much better fashion for ourselves next season imo with CB available to play on a much more regular basis than this season has provided for ourselves?
