“It tells me the SPFL are spineless” – Journalist’s damning verdict after Sevco’s weekend antics

As the title race hots up, all eyes are on Scottish football as the Glasgow Derby approaches.

With Celtic set to wrap up the title if they beat *Rangers on Sunday, there has never been a better time to attract sponsors to our game as Scotland’s biggest clubs start to joust for the games biggest prize.

Or so you would think.

*Rangers ongoing dispute over the Cinch deal is become a farce and a rather embarrassing episode for Scottish football.

As the dust settles on the Ibrox clubs away fixture, journalist Peter Martin addressed the ‘taping up’ of the sponsors logo during Giovanni van Bronckhorts post match interview.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Martin said, “I found astounding that they interviewed one manager with their sponsorship in the background, and then clearly somebody’s gone about with white tape to cover the sponsor up when the Rangers manager was there.

“It tells me that the SPFL are spineless when it comes to standing up to a deal that’s in place that all clubs can’t adhere to. I just thought, I was gobsmacked to see it.“

Co host and journalist Allison McConnell also agreed, “I was surprised that was allowed for the very reasons that you’ve just given I think came at a time when you’re struggling to attract any sponsorship deal and when the the majority of clubs voted to accept the money, then I think you have a duty then to promote the sponsors brand if you if you’re taking the money that it brings in.

“I also thought there was an element of hypocrisy to it as well I think game the game was rearranged rightly as we spoke about last week, in order to maximise Rangers chances as he goes on to to present Scotland in the semi final the European competition.

“So I think sometimes there has to be a bit of give and take.”

I wonder, and I think I may be correct here, if Rangers will still take that same sponsors money at the end of the season when the prizes are handed out?
