Is Celtic Stars Time Up As Stephen McGowan Highlights Postecoglou’s Shopping List?

With Celtic’s activity in the transfer market starting to gather pace, trusted journalist Stephen McGowan has predicted that the Hoops supporters are about to witness a massive upturn in incomings and outgoings this week.

Vital Celtic reported this morning that Daily Mail reporter McGowan expects striker Odsonne Edouard to finalise his £20m move to Brighton after their Champions League qualifier on Wednesday but interestingly highlighted the key positions Postecoglou wants to strengthen before the window closes.

We all know centre back, right back, wingers and strikers are priorities but according to McGowan, Postecoglou is also on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. So that leads me to ask, ‘Where does that leave Ismaila Soro’?

Soro broke through to the first team under Neil Lennon and impressed the supporters with his energy and enthusiasm and went on to make 21 appearances that season.

Soro shows he has a great engine and excellent potential and since former captain Scott Brown left the club for Aberdeen, many would have thought the young 23 year old was a shoe in to step into Brown’s role in the centre of the park.

Against West Ham on Saturday, Soro showed his rawness and (possibly?) inexperience as he barged down Antonio in the box to concede a penalty as Celtic suffered a heavy 6-2 defeat.

If Celtic do bring in another defensive midfielder, does this indicate that Postecoglou deems the young Ivory Coast international not quite ready for the step up into first team or will it mean that the new Celtic gaffer simply thinks he is not good enough to fit into his style of play?

Either way, it doesn’t bode well for Soro this season.

I hope the young man does make it at Paradise. I enjoy watching him play and his enthusiasm for the game is infectious.

In my opinion there is a player in there, let’s hope Postecoglou can draw it out as he has the potential to become a star at Celtic for years to come.
