Is Andy Halliday still a Hearts player? You wouldn’t think so after ‘fantastic’ Beale comments

Janefield Street

See if one of my players was on a radio show and giving plaudits to an opposition manager whose team had just skelped us 3-0 at home, I would be raging.

I would also expect the Celtic manager to be raging and the player to be told under no uncertain terms that appearances on said show, whilst still a player at the club, are banned.

Because it’s not a good look is it? Plus, how can any pundit that still represents a top club be an impartial pundit?

They simply cannot. And Halliday doesn’t have it in him to do it either. His loyalty to one club in Glasgow always shines through and he didn’t let himself down here.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Halliday will not have endeared himself to the Hearts supporters after lauding Michael Beale considering his club had been roasted by the Ibrox club, at home, for the second time this season, “The so called mediocre teams that Rangers are beating is the mediocre teams that Rangers couldn’t beat at the start the season and that’s the full reason why Michael Beale is now in the door.

Unless you talk about how they couldn’t beat Celtic or only got a point against Celtic.

No one even fancied Rangers to get a point against Celtic.

I’m not gonna say it’s what they wanted but I think it shocked certainly all the pundits here in the studio that we all fancied a Celtic win.

So listen, he’s doing a fantastic job.

Yes he’s not closed the gap, per se, for the points tally, but that’s more to the point that Celtic are still winning and still doing their job and they deserve praise for doing so.”

And there you have it. Beale is doing a ‘fantastic’ job. He’s not. He’s clinging onto our coattails with his fingernails and scraping results and even when we were at our worst, he still couldn’t find a way to get past us.

So please spare us ‘fantastic’. Fantastic is when there is silverware in the cabinet and that’s miles off yet.
