Watch Steve Clarke and Humza Yousaf call out Rangers fans’ sectarianism and yet it’s still ‘ignored’ in Scotland

The Rangers fans’ sectarian problem is not just targeted towards the Celtic fans.

For years we have put up with anti-Catholic and anti-Irish rhetoric whilst the Scottish media turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to it whenever it is heard in live broadcasts.

Which is strange considering they find the time to apologise anytime Kris Boyd is given stick by the Celtic fans whenever a game is broadcast live on television.

Recently, the Ibrox club’s supporters’ shameful conduct at Easter Road has hit the headlines and it seems now that moves are being taken to stamp out their caveman-like behaviour.

The Hate Crime bill has just been passed by the Scottish Parliament and whether people like it or not, there will be a lot of sweating Bears attending football matches soon.

But why is action being taken now? Why at this moment when this abhorrent behaviour was called out by Scotland manager, Steve Clarke and Scotland’s First Minister over two years ago?

Have a watch of this:

A public flaying of the sectarian singing by two of the most influential people in Scotland yet there is still silence from broadcasters and the Scottish media when 50,000 fans sing about killing Catholics every second week.

And what chance do you have when the First Minister’s words fall on deaf ears? Absolutely none.

It will be interesting to see how this Hate Crime bill is utilised and how any future charges stand up in court.

I guess we won’t have too long to wait as the Glasgow Derby is not too far away and neither is Rangers’ next home game against Hibs next Saturday.

The world will be watching…
