Phil Mac’s superb quip after Jim Delahunt publicly condemns Rangers fans’ sectarian singing leaves Celtic support delighted

Celtic Park

The sectarian singing that Celtic have had to endure for decades from the Rangers fans seeped into Easter Road last night as the Ibrox support shamed themselves once more.

As Hibs striker, Martin Boyle was receiving treatment for a sickening head injury, the Ibrox support chants led Jim Delahunt to vent his anger towards the Govan fans on social media in an unusual move by anyone in the Scottish media.

Delahunt said on X, “Why do we have to apologise for a wee sweary word that slips out on live TV but not for the loud “minority” singing of “die a fenian b******” as a player is carried off with a head injury. Weird.”

The fact that Delhunt quoted minority tells you that it’s quite clearly not a minority that takes part in these sectarian and racist chants we hear week in, week out from a Rangers support that continually revels anti-Catholic and racist rhetoric.

It’s just a shame it’s never called out when it also involves the Celtic support but at least this is a start.

Rangers sectarian problem called out by Celtic fans

This is not new to us. Celtic fans continually call this nonsense out whenever these ‘fenian’ chants are heard.

And you know what else it weird? The major broadcasters have no issues in apologising when they hear chants from the Celtic support when it includes the IRA or the Royal Family but they never do it when the sectarian singing that is clearly heard on their audio happens.

The hypocrisy stinks. But who can blame them? Does anyone remember Jim Spence? He was mysteriously let go from the BBC for calling Rangers a new club.

The Rangers support have also gunned for BBC reporter, Chris McLaughlin, after telling the truth about Rangers dying.

McLaughlin referred to the Ibrox club as ‘the old club that died’ on a live broadcast and the Rangers support unleashed a furious tirade of threats, abuse and calls for his sacking. [The Guardian]

But the responses to this tweet were superb as Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and the Celtic fans lauded Delahunt for his brave social media post:
