Celtic fans share how they really feel about Alexandro Bernabei leaving the club

Celtic defender Alexandro Bernabei

The news that Alexandro Bernabei has left Celtic to go on loan for the rest of the year has been met with a tide of reaction from the Celtic fans.

The Argentine was used by Brendan Rodgers this season as cover for the injured Greg Taylor and whilst he played okay, there were elements to his game that were just borderline madness.

Bernabei was unpredictable, unreliable and couldn’t tackle or defend. Not a good combination for a chaotic left-back who has Luis Palma on the same side who doesn’t track back.

Alexandro Bernabei seals his Celtic exit

And today he sealed his move from the club as he looks to kickstart his career in Brazil. His loan club, Sporting Club International, shared the news Bernabei has joined them in a statement on their website which read, “Sport Club Internacional announces that it has reached an agreement with Celtic Football Club to announce the signing of left-back Alexandro Bernabei. He signs a loan agreement with Clube do Povo until the end of 2024.

“The left-back started his professional career in 2019 at Lanús in Argentina. In its first season, it has already attracted attention, always characterized by a lot of delivery, technical quality and speed. In all, he made 86 appearances for Lanús with 5 goals and 10 assists.

“In 2022, he went to Scotland to wear the Celtic shirt. Playing for the Scottish team, the Argentine athlete achieved important steps in his professional career, such as titles and international matches, debuting in the Champions League against Red Bull Leipzig.”

A bit of a stretch with the old international matches and winning titles there considering he only made 28 appearances for Celtic in two years but yeah, whatever it takes to sell the move to their fans I suppose. [Transfermarkt]

As rumours spread yesterday before the move had even been confirmed that Bernabei was set to leave Celtic, the fans were in no doubt about how they felt about it:

This move spells the beginning of the end for Bernabei’s Celtic career who’s arrival was announced with an air of excited expectation.

Good luck to the defender, I hope it works out for him.
