“What he is” – The John Beaton elephant in the room called out after Celtic VAR horror show

SFA official John Beaton

The Celtic VAR horror show at Tynecastle controversy rumbles on today after John Beaton opened up a huge can of worms last Sunday.

I wrote yesterday about the number of games Beaton has refereed for Celtic compared to Rangers and the differences in decisions given in those games and it showed how there is a slight but obvious difference in the summer of red cards issued by the whistler.

And let’s not forget the amount of obvious penalties Beaton has denied against Rangers and the dubious ones he has given them as they chase Celtic as the dominant in Scotland.

This has led to claims that Beaton is allowing his allegiances towards the Ibrox club to influence his decision-making even though some journalists deny he supports Rangers. It’s quite an obvious elephant in the room.

But, finally, Beaton has been called out for what he really is after Kevin Graham expertly dissected the whistler on A Celtic State of Mind.

Graham said, “He is a Rangers fan. That is what he is. And he never tries to hide that. His decisions on Sunday were biased, and it’s an unconscious bias.

“He doesn’t even know that he’s doing it. I’m talking from an unconscious bias here about Celtic because that’s the way that your brain works.

“It’s your subconscious works in a way. He made the decisions via his subconscious because he’s a Rangers fan, bottom line.

“And I would do the same as a Celtic fan. And for journalists to deny that as an absolute scientific fact that that is the way your brain works, more fool them.” (A Celtic State of Mind)

The furore over the Celtic VAR calls is bound to continue from now until the end of the season and there is a very real possibility it could be a contributory factor that costs us the title.

Could Celtic demand that Beaton not officiate another game involving us again? It’s very unlikely but what Beaton has done now is put not only more pressure on himself but also his colleagues whenever a contentious decision goes against our club again.
