Overseas journalist shares what he really thinks about the Green Brigade’s Celtic Park Palestine banner

Match Day Celtic Park

The Green Brigade’s stance on the situation in Palestine took a turn after the weekend banner at Celtic Park.

The fan group was criticised in the Scottish media for the banner but what it did do was raise awareness of the plight of the Palestinian people once again.

The genocide happening in the region is a humanitarian disaster of epic proportions and there are people far more qualified than me to speak about it.

However, after condemnation in the Scottish media, a Turkish journalist lifted his head above the parapet and praised the Green Brigade for the banner in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).

Turkish journalist Kenan Kinan, who has almost a quarter of a million followers on X, shared what he really thought about the Green Brigade banner on Saturday.

Kinan tweeted, “Here are the fans, here is the rebellion The famous ‘Green Brigade’ fan group of the Scottish football team Celtic was punished by UEFA for protesting against Israel due to the brutality in Palestine.

This group was not allowed into the stands in Champions League matches. As you can see in the photo, Green Brigades continue to support Palestine.

The last time they opened a banner was “30,000+ dead, 12,000+ children. End the genocide. End Zionism.” Good job. It turns out that being a Celtic fan is rebellious! They are not afraid of anyone.

They protest wherever there is injustice. They do what our people cannot do! I wrote before; Many have only just learned of Celtic fans’ support for Palestine, but anti-Israel protests in the stands date back to 2016.

They are known for the great rivalry between Catholic Celtic fans and Protestant Rangers fans, who are the most colourful and impressive fans not only in Scotland but also in Europe.

They are organized and sticking to their protest! Their continued support for Palestine, despite UEFA’s penalties, deserves much applause and respect. I wish one of our big four teams would play a friendly match with Celtic within the framework of the Palestine aid organization.”

Very high praise indeed for the Green Brigade outside of these shores and from an unlikely source in the Turkish media.

Support for the Palestinian people has been unwavering over the last few months. The genocide being committed by the Israeli Government is, rightly, being condemned.

If only those in our own media had the balls to call it out for it is instead of leaving it to a fan group to highlight.
