The Peter Lawwell assurances Brendan Rodgers wanted before he took the Celtic job

After the weekend’s dropped points at Pittodrie, many Celtic fans are now questioning the role of Peter Lawwell at the club.

In fact, scratch that. After the shambolic transfer windows of this season many fans believe that it’s the meddling of Peter Lawwell that is hampering the club’s recruitment to the point that now, Celtic are weaker than they were a mere six months ago.

When Rodgers took control of Celtic in the summer, he took over a cash-rich club with a team chock full of treble winners. It was a surefire recipe for success.

Unless something got in the way. And it seemed that Rodgers knew it. Peter Lawwell.

Which is why he sought assurances that if he agreed to take up the role, Lawwell would keep his nose out. That’s according to Phil Mac Ghiolla Bhain.

In his latest blog , Phil said:

So what went wrong? If anything has gone wrong that is.

The assumption is that the lack of transfer activity is down to Lawwell’s return as the Chairman of Celtic.

That is the suspicion of the fans and after reading Phil’s blog it seems that there is no smoke with it fire.

With Mark Lawwell as the apparent Head of Recruitment, Celtic’s ability to spot real talent has been in question. And it remains so until the fans get answers.

Is Lawwell interfering with Rodgers’ ability to get the targets he wants? You make your mind up but it does seem like there is a pattern developing and it’s one that the Celtic fans will not like.
