The £5m Ligue 1 international midfielder that could solve Celtic’s problem position for free

Celtic have been looking for a player in Callum McGregor’s position ever since Ange Postecoglou came to the club.

We have tried, and failed, on three avenues to find a solution.

We loaned in Oliver Abildgaard. Failure.

We bought Yosuke Ideguchi. Failure, but probably more unlucky.

We tried an experience free international. Failure.

So where do we go from here?

There could be an answer in the French top division

Hicham Boudaoui is a defensive midfielder currently playing for Nice. He is 23 years old and has 10 caps for Algeria.

According to Salary Sport, he currently earns £13k per week on a contract that expires this summer so he wouldn’t exactly break the bank.

He has played 14 times for Nice this season and has an average rating of 7.13 [Sofa Score].

More importantly, this season he averages 65 minutes per game (which is very decent considering he is returning from injury) and has 89& passing accuracy

91% of his accuracy is from his own half which shows he is well versed in playing from the back.

He completes almost 4 successful tackles per game and wind over 60% of his ground duels.

He also commits less than one foul per match which shows he is calm under pressure and not rash in the tackle and at such a young age, he could be one that could develop further under Ange Postecoglou.
