The Glasgow Derby fallout continues this week as John Beaton comes under the microscope once again.
As ever with these games, the refereeing comes under the spotlight and it will even more when John Beaton is appointed any role within the derby.
Beaton has made plenty of contentious decisions against Celtic over the years while being involved in plenty of patterns of assistance for Rangers.
And at Celtic Park last Sunday, Beaton and VAR came under the spotlight once again.
Beaton should not be involved in Celtic fixtures
This argument has raised its head once again after VAR and Beaton decided to rule Kyogo Furuhashi‘s goal for Celtic against Rangers as offside.
Videos on social media cast serious doubts over Beaton’s decision to stand by VAR’s verdict and that has opened up a discussion by Paul John Dykes on A Celtic State of Mind over whether or not a known Rangers fan should be anywhere near a Celtic game never mind a Glasgow Derby.
Dykes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I don’t think it’s a negative to bring up the VAR, right? Because here’s the thing, I don’t know if there’s an age limit about becoming a referee, right?
“But this is as ridiculous as the scenario we find ourselves in. I’m a self-proclaimed Celtic supporter, and have been my entire life.
“If I were to be a phenomenal SFA referee and come through the ranks, would I be given a Celtic vs Rangers game?
“I shouldn’t be because I’m biased, right? I absolutely agree with you. I should never be given a game.
“I should never be given the responsibility where, because of my bias, unconscious or otherwise, I give a decision against the opposition. And that’s the situation we’re in. We know that John Beaton’s a Rangers fan.
“We know that. That’s just a fact. So there is going to be conscious or unconscious bias in these scenarios.”
“And you made a great point there. Rangers had a decent first 10 minutes, Celtic scored that early goal. If you chop that off, that can completely change the dynamic of the game.
“It’s not just the goal you’re chopping off, it’s the entire dynamic of the game that you’re changing, isn’t it?”
I’m a Celtic fan (you might have guessed) and if I were to ref a game involving the team I have supported since I was a boy, like Paul John says, could I guarantee I wouldn’t be swayed unconscious or otherwise to favour my team?
Absolutely not. And it would be the same if it was a Rangers game. I couldn’t guarantee that the love I have for Celtic would not influence any decisions I made were I to ref one of their games.
It’s human nature. And the fact that the SFA can’t, or won’t, see this as a problem really is bizarre. Thankfully, that decision didn’t cost Celtic on that day but one day it will.
Just like it did against Hearts last season.

Beaton cannot get involved in the offside decision once var has ruled Kuhn offside he cannot go to the monitor. So Dallas should be the one being held accountable not Beaton.
The point is that whenever he is involved in any capacity of officiating Celtic games, there is always an ‘honest mistake’
But that’s the thing if you’re a Catholic you’ll be less inclined to reach the top coming through the ranks unless you renounce your religion and and join the referees masonic lodge I know some will say catholics can join the masons. But 99% don’t get that far.i personally know 4 Catholic boys who tried but none made it because they would not renounce their religion and one of them was rated to be the best up and coming young referee
We can complain all we like, but until the board “ grow a pair” this cheating will continue.
12 men on the pitch ,two in the var room ,one the spawn of a bigot and the other a c**t of an ex cop, sacked for assault I believe…yet we still smashed them …but that’s all it takes ,with those three involved in any capacity, the fix will be in …
