Phil Mac – How Philippe Clement unwittingly helped Celtic in their Brendan Rodgers battle with the SFA

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic’s battle with the SFA over Brendan Rodgers’ John Beaton comments took a turn last week.

With the Celtic support fully expecting the Celtic manager to be banned for the weekends Ibrox Glasgow Derby, Rodgers got served a one match touch line ban which he served at Livingston last week.

Rodgers’ comments about the match officials being incompetent seemed like an open and shut case for the SFA.

However, it never materialised like that and whilst the details of the hearing have never been made public, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain has told what he heard Celtic did at the hearing that forced the SFA’s hand.

Philippe Clement helped Celtic’s case for Rodgers’ SFA defence

In his latest blog, Phil said, “Firstly, they introduced comments from dear Philippe and the official position of Statement FC apropos match officials to set a precedent in the meeting.

”They also brought in expert testimony from VAR officials working in several major European leagues to assess the quality of officiating at Tynecastle.

”I’m told that the Continental consensus was firmly in Celtic’s favour.”

Indeed the comment by Clemente earlier this season have certainly helped as the SFA can’t been seen to be so blatant on how differently they treat Celtic compared to Rangers even though their referees are.

The spotlight is firmly on the national association this weekend as the Glasgow Derby is less than 48 hours away.

Any discrepancies in Beaton’s decision making will be poured over and analysed with the SFA firmly in Celtic’s minds should any dubious decision cost the club on Sunday at Ibrox.
