Celtic fans bewildered as 2016 footage of John Beaton Tynecastle penalty award vs Hearts emerges

SFA official John Beaton

It’s all about John Beaton this week as the SFA whistler remains the centre of attention after Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers’ SFA hearing today.

The Celtic manager received a one match ban and one match suspended which means Rodgers sits out the Livingston game on Sunday but is back in the dugout for the Ibrox Glasgow Derby.

It was a decision that beautifully enraged the Rangers support and had certain media men all in all in a flap.

Rodgers’ use of the word incompetence to describe John Beaton and the Tynecastle match officials set off a chain of events that led to the SFA hearing.

But is Beaton really incompetent? We all remember his officiating in the Ibrox Glasgow Derby defeat where afterwards he was caught having a pint in a Rangers pub.

That’s a huge red flag, right? Well here’s another one and it’s from yet another Celtic game involving Hearts, at Tynecastle and, incredibly an award of another non-penalty.

Have a watch of this:

Dated the 10th of March, it was retweeted out following the Rodgers SFA result.

Now there’s an old saying that you might be familiar with. ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.’

But three times? Come on. Serious questions must be asked about Beaton’s suitability to officiate top flight games.

It’s clear that he can’t get the big calls correct and it’s also clear that when it comes to Celtic, he often gets those decisions wrong.

I wrote last night that the Celtic fans are asking an obvious John Beaton question this week.

After this it’s not just obvious, that question is now staring us right in the face.
