The outstanding message Dublin sent to UEFA after bizarre Rangers request this week

It certainly has been a superb week for the Celtic fans after Rangers crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night.

The meltdown from the city’s south side has been sensational as we witnessed Kris Boyd struggling to speak on Sky Sports, Ally McCoist throwing Rangers players under the bus, David Tanner being David Tanner and, of course, Bear on Bear action as the Ibrox support inevitably turned to violence.

It’s been outstanding. And it’s about to get better. Remember how I told how UEFA embarrassed themselves by making contingency plans just in case Rangers and Liverpool met in the Europa League Final in Dublin in May?

Well, it seems that the fair city was quite clear in their reply to Europe’s governing body.

In his latest blog Phil MacGiolla Bhain shared the unequivocal message the Irish capital sent to the European governing body after their request.

Phil said:

As I said at the time, it’s little wonder UEFA planned for this eventuality after what they witnessed in Manchester but with the Bemfica tie still to be played, their premature request was a bit embarrassing.

However, as Phil pointed out, Benfica saved Ireland from the Ibrox hordes and the Portuguese club may well have found themselves a city of new fans after it.
