Celtic and English football fans are in stitches after UEFA’s latest Rangers claim

Ibrox Stadium

Celtic fans usually only laugh at Rangers when it’s their own supporters who are making ridiculous claims about Europe.

The Ibrox club are in the last 16 of the Europa League and, to be fair to them, got a creditable 2-2 draw with Benfica last week.

There is a long way to go yet to the final but it seems that UEFA actually believe that they have a chance of getting there.

The European governing body made an announcement tonight and it was roundly rinsed by football supporters all over the UK and Europe. Not just the Celtic fans.

Ok, I mean there is a possibility it could happen. A minute possibility at that but with Rangers still to play Benfica in the second leg and then (should they progress) face some of the best teams in Europe in the next round, the genuine chances of them getting to Dublin are slim to none.

Union Berlin, Liverpool, Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen are just some of the names that the Ibrox club could meet should they make the quarter-finals so I would suggest that UEFA hang fire till at least Thursday night before they make a complete fool of themselves.

Wait, that’s too late…

So it seems the verdict is clear. Rangers don’t have a hope of progressing and it seems that UEFA have already jumped the gun and, to be honest, shown a great deal of disrespect to Benfica.

I guess that’s their motivational speech done before the Ibrox kick-off on Thursday night.

  1. If Benfica play like they done in Lisbon, the Huns will beat them. They wouldn’t get past Liverpool or Leverkusen, but they have an uncanny knack of getting the run of the green in Europe. Depending what the draw brings, I wouldn’t think it’s outwith the realms of a possibility to go further in the tournament, but I would fucking hate it to see them go further and possibly lose a couple of key players with lengthy injuries on Thursday.

  2. Utter Tosh, Sevco couldn’t get on a bus if it was empty. Total muppets.
