‘Massive issue’ – The one simple thing Paulo Bernardo must change that will instantly make him a better Celtic player

Celtic midfielder, Paulo Bernardo

Paulo Bernardo has been told that there is one thing that he can do that can instantly make him a better footballer for Celtic.

The Portuguese midfielder joined Brendan Rodgers‘ side on a loan deal from Benfica and after a stuttering start to his Celtic career, he started to be relied upon more by the Celtic manager.

Used mainly for the Champions League group stages, Bernardo was a pivotal player during November and December in the Scottish Premiership when he started to add goals and assists to his game in wins over Dundee, Rangers and St Mirren. [Transfermarkt]

But in recent weeks, Bernardo has struggled to make the same impact and has been replaced in the Celtic team by Tomoki Iwata.

And to win his place back in the team, John ‘Yogi’ Hughes from A Celtic State of Mind has told the 22-year-old o

Paulo Bernardo must improve his passing

Hughes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I had to stop watching him because he was driving me insane. He wouldn’t pass the ball forward.

“He was absolutely unbelievable. He will not pass the ball forward. And the only time he’s effective in attack is when someone puts him through.

“I don’t understand it because he’s got the skills, he’s got quick feet, he’s got a good shot.

“He is allergic to making a forward pass. Honestly, if you watch him, it starts to get to the point where you just have to look away because it’s just so annoying.

“That’s a massive issue.”

That’s been an issue for Celtic all season, to be honest. The lack of urgency from midfield to front has been seriously lacking and it is affecting the team’s attacking intent.

For too long has the play been slow and tepid and with Reo Hatate missing, there is also a lack of dynamism in the middle of the park.

If Bernardo gets his opportunity this afternoon, let’s hope we see him be more positive as Celtic needs all their players to be taking an attack-minded approach if we are to win the title this season.
