The SFA labelled ‘not fit for purpose’ after latest ‘beyond outrageous’ Celtic decision

The SFA are simply unpopular with the Celtic fans at the best of times but this week, the governing body has come under some serious fire.

After the bizarre VAR calls made by Don Robertson and John Beaton this weekend, Celtic are now in the crosshairs of the SFA after Bredan Rodgers criticised Beaton specifically for his role in the Tynecastle loss.

However, it’s the SFA who has come under fire from A Celtic State of Mind‘s John Hughes as Yogi labels the national association as ‘not fit for purpose’ for their inability to select impartial referees.

SFA under fire for Celtic referee selection process

Hughes said, “It’s been backed up by any evidence of any studies that have ever been done. We’ve always known that unconscious bias is a factor in things far less important than this.

“I couldn’t referee a game involving Celtic. Like most of us I’m sure you try to do your job you try and go overboard and you may even be anti-Celtic because you’re trying to prove how neutral you are.

“If it came down to big decisions, big points, big prizes and all that sort of thing. There’s not that chance you’re not being swayed by that.

“It’s a nonsense. But the SFA, again, not fit for purpose. Not fit for purpose. These are things that are easy to resolve and should be resolved by any organisation that wants to claim any sort of modicum of professionalism.

“It is beyond a joke that we don’t have professional referees. And then you’ve got the likes of Douglas Ross in between trying to implement horrific Tory policies and then coming on and running the line.

“You know, up and down as far as he can. He’s pretty much got the same figure as I have at the moment as far as I can tell.

“I mean I don’t know if he’s running the line or jogging the line. To have stuff like that, it’s just beyond outrageous.” (A Celtic State of Mind)

The selection process for referees would be difficult seeing as most of them are said to be Rangers fans.

And as Yogi says, with the best will in the world, unconcious bias does exist. It will sway decisions and that is why the Celtic fans will never accept Beaton as being impartial due to his leanings towards the Ibrox club.
