Celtic need to ram dressing room damage claims down pundits throat. Starting tomorrow

European football is great isn’t it?

The euphoria of a great win can sometimes be outmatched by the over reaction to a defeat.

It’s all swings and roundabouts really but what really annoys me is the over reaction to a defeat. Not just from the fans, but from the games pundits.

Celtics loss to Bodo was no doubt damaging. Not only to our European aspirations but also to our reputation.

Ange Postecoglou was starting to make Celtic Park look like a difficult place to go and get a result again but Thursday nights defeat to the Norwegian Champions has sent out a message to Europe that Parkhead is still the fortress it once was.

But just how damaging was that result Thursday?

According to former Aberdeen player Noel Whelan, the psychological damage inflicted could have consequences on the dressing room.

Speaking in Football Insider, Whelan said,

“This is a crucial stage of the season and that kind of result can be damaging in the changing room and coming into the next fixture.

“They really must have done their homework on teams and how they play. They’re Norwegian champions and, to be honest, they’re on their winter break. They’ve not played for God knows how long.

“That goes to show how bad Celtic must have been when it comes to defending and managing the on

“These results can happen.

“They can be damaging behind the scenes for the rest of the season and to the upcoming games. That confidence has been smashed out of you.”

And there is the mass over reaction I was referring to. Plus Noel Whelan?

What would he know about the inner workings of the Hoops dressing room?

Has he watched our team this season? Hell, does he think for a minute Ange Postecoglou would allow that kind of self doubt enter the dressing room?

Its one defeat in 21 games. That kind of running streak doesn’t sound to me like a dressing room that could fracture after just one set back.

Even after all the set backs we saw at the start of the season the team kicked back stronger and better.

If anything, this loss will have a positive effect. It will give the team a kick up the *rse for the remainder of the season.
