“One or two players were scumbags” – Roy Keane reveals Celtic dressing room and blasts EPL club players

There’s a lot to be said about Roy Keane.

As hard as they come on the pitch, and just as cutting off it with his punditry.

His Celtic career didn’t get off to the best of starts when he made his debut in a Scottish Cup match against Clyde when the Hoops lost 2-0 away from home.

But in an interview in The Athletic, the legendary midfielder opened up on his time as Aston Villa Assistant Manager and the Irishman let rip, “The issue is having a good dressing room.

“You take it for granted. I can only go off my own experiences at Forest, then United and Celtic, where we had really good dressing-rooms. You think a good dressing-room is normal for every club. But it’s not.

“It’s when you leave United and go to other clubs you realise the players don’t train properly, the players don’t turn up for training, they don’t speak to the gaffer properly. You only find out when you leave.

“I was at Aston Villa for a while. One or two players were, like, scumbags. They’d be scumbags on a building site. They wouldn’t train properly. The way they’d speak to staff – you’re thinking ‘amazing!’

“These players, kidding people on, getting another contract, playing for clubs and then they wonder why they don’t win anything. Because they’ve got people like you in the dressing room.”
