Daily Record debunk ‘their’ fantasy Rangers transfer story in hours as desperation to catch Celtic hits home

With a title race dominating the headlines, Rangers bid to stop Celtic from picking up their twelfth title in fourteen years is getting the Scottish press all excited.

With three points separating the teams, Celtic go into the last four games of the season with three at home and just one away.

With Hearts up next, Rangers follow and if Brendan Rodgers picks up maximum points, the league is effectively over and Celtic will be crowned champions once again.

Celtic’s domination of Scottish football is unparalleled and it’s clear it is gnawing at the Daily Record, as well as the Rangers fans, as they print another piece of succulent lamb for the Ibrox club.

Ben Johnson will not leave West Ham for Rangers

The Daily Record claimed that Rangers ‘held talks‘ with Johnson, or more specifically, Philippe Clement himself ‘opened dialogue’ with the former England u21 international.

However, less than 24 hours later, they debunked the story in this report as Johnson is likely to sign for Crystal Palace in the summer as a free agent.

And the best part? In the original report, it was structured as if they had got the scoop but when it was found out that the link was a pile of nonsense, they credited The Athletic as the original source so they didn’t look stupid.

It’s the sort of tactic that continues to make media publications like the Daily Record a laughing stock, especially as they also trawl the Celtic blogging sites for the majority of their Hoops stories.

With Johnson on a reported £33k per week (SalarySport), he would be looking for a huge pay hike as a Bosman signing and there is no way Rangers could afford to match what he would be looking for especially when you look at how much money they are wasting on players who can’t even get in the matchday squad.
