If there was ever a time where you needed confirmation that there could be inherent bias towards one club from Scottish officials it is now.
Celtic fans have long thought that some referee’s had leanings towards a certain club that plays in blue, and most likely they do, but if they ever want to dispel that myth, tweets like these do them absolutely no favours.
After *Rangers’ hilar…….I mean devastating loss in the Europa League Final on Wednesday, Douglas Ross, who famously got Simunovic sent off in a Glasgow Derby tweeted this:
Normally, not too bothered about something like that. It’s probably his ‘civic’ duty as a unionist MP to congratulate failure but the issue many seem to have is there is no balance from the MSP.
No congratulations tweet to St Johnstone on their cup double win last season? Or what about Celtic in their historic second 9 in a row or Quadruple Treble.
Don’t be daft. So it’s little wonder fans of other clubs eye our match officials with suspicion:
An @spfl match official tweeting about The Rangers. Presume he will have tweeted also to congratulate Celtic on winning the league? No? Impartiality of our match officials? Also, GIRUY.
A Scottish club go 1-0 up against a German team in a Europa league final and immediately start chanting about a Dutch Monarch killing Irish Catholics fighting for an English King in a field in Meath 332 years ago.
Must have missed the congrats to Celtic tweet last week. You can’t win anything Doogie 😂😂 good to see your neutral seeing as your on official in Scotland. Makes Celtic’s achievement even more impressive.
Oh the podcasts. How much have they taken a battering over the last 24 hours?
Especially those with *Rangers leaning pundits.
The Go Radio Football Show had Colin Hendry on (yeah, what a capture) as their resident Ibrox ‘expert’ for the night and even he didn’t muster a reaction like Andy Halliday did on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
Don’t get me wrong, Hendry’s conduct throughout the penalty shoot out reeked of ‘ra peepo’ but that’s another matter.
But poor Andy. When asked for his immediate reaction following the missed penalty, the poor lad could only muster this:
I would hazard a guess there were tears and hankies at the ready.
See it’s not only Celtic fans that can’t stand them and their better than everyone else attitude.
The *Rangers fans are disliked universally by almost all fans in Scotland. Except Kilmarnock fans. Because, well, you know……
And as the worlds most succe…….nah, I can’t even do it.
As they lick their wounds instead of their sis…….no, no, no!! Stop it!
Let’s start again.
Rangers got pumped. Celtic fans laughed. But it wasn’t just the Celtic fans that were revelling in their pain.
Fans of clubs all over the country were taking great joy in their pain at last nights loss and it is little wonder.
After months of telling us that our league is less worthy than a second tier European competition (aided and abetted by a succulent media) the karma of watching them fail and potentially finish the season trophyless is just superb.
And this Aberdeen fan summed it all up beautifully:
And to say it went down a storm is not an understatement:
No sooner had that last penalty hit the back of the net big Chris got out his fishing rod and hooked a few belters with this tweet:
The most notable one was Kevin Thomson and you can read about it in the nationals but there were so many biters that I couldn’t possibly keep up.
You see, I know we are gloating. Of course we are, but if they hadn’t been so arrogant and up their own ar*es trying to belittle our league and with their stupid claims about the Lisbon Lions I probably wouldn’t spend all day ripping the utter sh**e out of them.
Ok, I probably would but you get my drift.
So just enjoy the pain and joy big Sutton has caused:
