What Alistair Johnston did vs St Johnstone that has Kyogo ‘thriving’ at Celtic

Celtic’s win over St Johnstone on Saturday has put Brendan Rodgers’ team back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Although Rangers do have a game in hand, the boost that sitting top of the league will give the team is huge.

But on top of the win, the performance against the Perth side was back to the days of old when Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic were so relentless.

But it was what Alistair Johnston did that impressed Paul John Dykes of A Celtic State of Mind and how the Canadian helped spark Kyogo to life on Saturday.

Dykes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I mean, one thing I did see and it would suit Kyogo, is the intensity was there. I mean, when you look at the actual kickoff, St Johnstone instantly tried to find a ball down the right wing.

“And Johnston wins the ball within the first 10 seconds. So it was intense from the kickoff. And then in the second half, it was intense.

“We get the second goal and this intensity has been, for me, lacking far too often this season. But going back to one of the points because I said Kyogo thrives on it, doesn’t he.

“He thrives on that intensity, he thrives on still being able to pick out space behind the defenders. He is a couple of seconds ahead of the opposition defenders in doing that. And it’s happened at the right time.

“Because either by design or otherwise, I want Kyogo to be starting that game against Rangers.”

The Japanese striker certainly looks back to his best these days and with Alistair Johnston also on top form, the support from the Celtic flanks is so crucial in helping Kyogo’s goalscoring form.

Let’s hope this continues after the international break as the Celtic fans need all of their top players on form if they are to win this league come the end of May.
