Celtic’s win at Livingston came after Brendan Rodgers’ team had to battle for the win. But it was what Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnston did in the game that has created a great impression.
After allowing Livingston to claw their way back into the game twice, it took two late goals from Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi to set Celtic up for what they now know is a semi-final clash against Aberdeen.
But as I said, Celtic had to fight and scrap for their result and there were two players on the Parkhead pitch that stood out for Kevin Graham on A Celtic State of Mind.
Celtic duo spotted berating teammates
It seems that both Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnston have been taking on a leadership role in the absence of injured Celtic pair Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Graham said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I don’t know if they showed you on the telly but I noticed that Greg Taylor had Iwata, Scales and Welsh berating all three of them in the middle of the park.
“Pointing out stuff and trying to actually sort them out on the pitch. And I noticed Alistair Johnston doing the same with Welsh and Scales as well and these guys are trying to talk players through on the pitch.
“Get McGregor in there and that’s another voice. And I really the big thing I noticed was at Fir Park was that those three took the responsibility.”
It’s great to hear this kind of thing because this is the kind of stuff that Celtic fans watching at home never see.
Whilst Johnston has shown his leadership qualities before, hopefully, Taylor will get some credit for this as he always seems to be a whipping boy for a certain section of the Celtic support.
With less than ten games to go in the title race, Celtic need battlers and in Taylor and Johnston, Brendan Rodgers may have stumbled onto two warriors that could drag this team to the title.
