Hugh Keevins’ latest Rangers comments should be pinned on Celtic’s dressing room wall

The Celtic fans are well used to radio pundits and former Rangers pros lining up to take a boot at the club whenever they are down.

It has never been more evident on the SMSM agenda this week as they try to paint Celtic as title also-rans due to the fact that Rangers have, apparently, been resurgent under Philippe Clement.

In truth, the only reason there is a real title race on is because Celtic have allowed the Ibrox club to get right back into it.

Daft dropped points against the likes of Kilmarnock, Hearts, Motherwell and St Johnstone have gifted Rangers the top spot despite Celtic winning the last two Glasgow Derby’s.

However, it was Hugh Keevins‘ lastest comments that really irked me this morning. The veteran journalist was clearly served a huge dish of succulent lamb on Saturday after his latest Rangers comments lacked a serious case of self-awareness.

Hugh Keevins wipes Celtic’s last two wins over Rangers from the record

Keevins was in fine form at the weekend as he fawned over Rangers’ 5-0 win over Hearts when he made this stunning prediction.

Keevins said (Clyde SSB), “There’s something very special brewing because of, exclusively because of Clement. I cannot imagine who would beat Rangers between the end of the season in terms of domestic football.

“They won’t win a European trophy because there are too many clubs bigger than them who stand in their way. They will go beyond Benfica, I think.

“However, in a domestic context, I don’t think anyone could lay a glove on them just now. We’re all long-term football players, football managers and football reporters and I don’t think anyone could make a case for anybody other than Rangers winning the league.”

So did the last two Celtic wins at Ibrox and Celtic Park not count then Hugh? If we win the next two, what happens then?

Celtic looked back to their best after a rousing second half saw them trounce Motherwell 3-1 on Sunday.

I think Keevins has counted his chickens before the eggs have even been laid here.
