“What’s the point” – Celtic in ‘dire trouble’ after latest piece of transfer business

Celtic’s transfer business in this January window has been nothing but underwhelming.

With the fans told consistently by Brendan Rodgers that he was looking to add quality to the squad, the latest news surrounding the upcoming loan signing of Adam Idah has done nothing to show that proven quality is on the way.

Idah is third third-choice striker in an English Championship side. He’s also 22-years old. If that doesn’t scream ‘project signing‘ to anyone then I am lost.

And that is certainly the view of podcaster, John ‘Yogi’ Hughes. The big man was in fine form on A Celtic State of Mind as he poured over the January window and Hughes admits to feeling frustrated at Celtic’s foray in the transfer market.

Hughes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “If your man Adam Idah is the extent of it you have to wonder what’s the point.

“Before the transfer started, I said on here we wouldn’t do anything and we won’t be rescued in this window. There is no evidence to suggest we will be rescued in this window.

“Brendan’s gonna have to pull out the bag. He’s gonna have to sort it out because I don’t think there’s any evidence to suggest that anything will be done.

“I really, really, really wanted to be proven wrong. I really did.

“It’s so frustrating. I know I shouldn’t be frustrated because it’s what I was saying would happen but you can’t help but look at the performance the other day and think we really need reinforcements.

“The squad is so threadbare at the top end. We are a couple of injuries and poor form away from being in dire trouble.

Idah may well turn out to be a great signing for Celtic in this window. He may well hit double figures when he gets his opportunity in the team.

But let’s be honest, the title run-in is no place to be blooding in another team’s player. Kyogo is going to start all day, every day until May. Unless he gets injured.

I’m with John, if Celtic lose this league because of poor recruitment, then I am going to join him in saying, “What’s the point?”

  1. Yogi is bang on the money here. A third choice striker from Norwich on a short term loan deal is ridiculous recruitment for a club the size of Celtic.

But we are where we are and Brendan can only work with the players he has. But yes, if the league is not won this season, a lot of the blame has to be awarded to those responsible for recruitment. Whoever they may be 🤔
