“Shut your mouth” – Sevco fans strange reaction as Graham Spiers calls out sectarianism

Ibrox Stadium

The more journalists that call this out the better. Sectarianism in Scotland and at football is abhorrent and needs tackled at all opportunity.

The thing is, it never will be. At least by the administrators of the Scottish game.

The close their eyes and stick their fingers in their ears every time a *Rangers game is shown on TV because they know what’s coming.

They know the bile that comes from the stands and quite simply, they do not care.

There is no appetite from the governing bodies to tackle this issue properly. Like UEFA properly.

Not showing wee stupid red cards. Not paying lip service with a rehash of Kick It Out. But proper sanctions to all clubs guilty of it.

Stand closures. It may not rid the sectarian problem from society, but it certainly will from the stands. Which is a start.

But one journalist who is incredibly vocal at calling out sectarianism is Graham Spiers.

A well known Rangers fan, he’s been a long standing critic of his own support and in his latest podcast, he takes a deep dive into the issues of sectarianism in our game.

And the Rangers fans did not like it. Not one bit:

And the main reason why most of their fans don’t want him speaking about it is not because they want to tackle it or because they want open dialogue to address it. It’s because of this:

There’s a game on. I mean what the f***!!

Don’t talk about the cancer in the game because ‘ra Rainjurs ur playn’. Typical, but not surprising.

This will never catch on though:

  1. Don’t shut sections of the stadium as that won’t make a bit of difference or deterrent to these racist scum. Deduct them points every time songs of hate and racism are belched out. Start at 3 point deduction, and continually work up. Maybe then the klub will wake up and condone their actions, as will many of their fans. If it doesn’t, close the stadium to all fans and keep deducting them points or discontinue them from the league that season. Enough is enough and it’s only allowed to continue because it’s Celtic supporters and families. If it was any other creed or colour, it would’ve been dealt with a long time ago.

Please, please let Leipzig go through tonight and spare the wonderful people and beautiful city of Seville.
