“What a strange, strange fanbase” – A Man United fan reacts as Jimmy Bell banner is revealed

Ibrox at Broomloan Road

I was keeping my powder dry on this for many reasons. My thoughts on Jimmy Bell will remain private as I don’t feel it necessary to make public my thoughts on someone who has recently passed.

But even I can’t ignore this. Even I an’t acknowledge that this banner, whoever made it, has used the death of a popular character as Ibrox to shamelessly promote the continuation lie.

No more. No less.

Apart from the fact that if any such person was awarded the title the banner claims, it is also factually incorrect.

Just this morning this was posted on twitter:

.

No issue with their fans paying tribute to a long serving member of their staff, but please, spare me this embarrassment.

That club has done nothing but promote the same club myth. It went into overdrive last season with the over the top “55” celebrations which the media actively promoted (I can’t ever recall them promoting Celtic’s 50th real title for that matter) but to use the death of someone they say they hold dear to their hearts to advocate this myth is just shameful.

Shameful exploitation. And quite frankly, embarrassing. As it is still factually incorrect.

Because this is Celtic’s kit man:

I just don’t understand this mode of thinking. It’s disturbing.

They have spent the last 24 hours lambasting some of the social media comments about Bell’s death telling folk to respect the dead. How in God’s name is this respect?

It’s opportunism on a monumental scale.

Whoever thought about this idea, then designed it, then contacted a company to make, then paid for it, then put it up needs to give them self a shake.

But as it is, they felt this was a fitting tribute and as always, the Celtic fans reacted to it and so did a fan from down south:
