“Today I had it confirmed” – Phil Mac reveals true reason the Ibrox suits can’t walk away from Sydney

The latest Ibrox civil war has been hilarious viewing and it’s only going to get better.

I’ll touch more on this later but what has caught my eye is that the whole argument for walking away from the Ange Homecoming Tour is that the £1m ‘fine’ that could be put on the club for doing so is worth it in the eyes of the fans.

Turns out it’s not just £1m.

On his latest blog, Phil Mac Giolla Bháin was speaking about the Ibrox infighting and also revealed that the fine, should *Rangers fans get their wish, and the Govan club walk away from the Sydney Tour is much larger than what their fans first thought.

Phil wrote, “I had initially dismissed this as mere spin from the folks at Parkhead [the fee Celtic are to receive being greater than *Rangers] to make the whole endeavour more palatable to their own fans who were repelled by the ‘Old Firm’ package being sold furth of Scotland.

“I’m now convinced the Ibrox club is receiving less than a third of what their city neighbours are getting for participating in this tournament.

“Today I had it confirmed to me from two independent sources, who have no connection with each other, that there is a punitive break clause in the Sydney Super Cup contract.

“Indeed, it was stated to me by these two individuals that if anyone were to Do Walking Away then the penalty would be greater than the original fee.”

So we are talking a fine in excess of £3m should the Rangers fans force the club to pull out of the tournament.

£3m that the can’t afford to not have nor pay.

Rock? Meet hard place. And it’s going to be a great watch to see how this plays out.

  1. I believe that Sevco have already had participation fees paid up front ( any sensible company would require guarantees/ penalty clause that are greater than the appearance fees themselves when dealing with a toxic brand who challenge their bills on a consistent basis) . That’s where the problem lies.
    Canny stop laughing.
