Well here it is. I really have heard it all now. The Aaron Ramsey story has gripped the nation.
No, it really has. Celtic fans are gripped to social media watching their rivals fans grip Aaron Ramsey’s sicknote like Craig Whyte gripped that £1 coin before flipping it to David Murray.
It’s brilliant entertainment. But not as much as this claim by Davie Provan, ably backed up by sidekick Barry Ferguson.
On The Go Radio Football Show, both were discussing Ramsey and the failure his signing has turned out to be when Provan hit out with this belter, “In terms of Ramsey, at the moment, and this is with the benefit of hindsight, and now it looks like a costly mistake that Rangers have made.
“But at the time, I don’t know any Rangers supporters who were criticising the signing of Aaron Ramsey.
“It looked a very good bit of business at the time albeit he hadn’t played a lot of football.
“And I’ll tell you what, if Ange Postecoglou had been offered Aaron Ramsey he would have taken them at the time.
Host of the show, Paul Cooney, was perplexed when he answered, “You reckon?”
And Provan replied, “Yeah, of course he would.“
He wouldn’t have and I’ll tell you why in a minute but not before wee Barry tried to justify the statement when he said, Yeah you’ve got to take a player of that quality. Even if he hadn’t played much football.
“It is a gamble because he’s not played that much football but as you said, he is only 31 years of age.
“You look at the level that he’s played at. Top international footballer.
“He’s won trophies with Arsenal. He’s went over to Serie A and won it with Juventus.
“So you’ve got to take the chance to sign Aaron Ramsey.”

And as for Ange taking him if he was offered to Celtic, Davie, with all due respect, give me peace.
At the start of the season the gaffer had to sign unfit players out of necessity, not injured players, and if you seriously think that Ramsey was getting in ahead of McGregor, Rogic or even Bitton, you are seriously, seriously deluded.
There is not a single neuron in Provan’s head. Do not pay any attention to him. He is an utter bore and devoid of any ability to reason.
