“Clueless”, “Lay off the bevvy” -Michael Stewart hits the post in incredible Celtic blast
Michael Stewart is one of the fairest pundits around.
Never shirks away from the hard issues in Scottish football and generally calls it how he sees it.
But this morning he has got it all horribly wrong. In his column in The Sun, Stewart has incredibly claimed that Cameron Carter Vickers is not not good enough to play for the Hoops and Carl Starfelt also got it both barrels.
Stewart went even further in his assessment when he said, “I can’t really remember a window when I didn’t feel Celtic should strengthen that area. It’s been neglected for a long time.
Even Brendan Rodgers’ side had a weakness in central defence.
Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic were better than what they have now, but still didn’t convince in Europe.
So far this season, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt have been Postecoglou’s first-choice duo. For me, neither is good enough.
I hear people saying the Spurs loan man has been a great addition. But if Celtic want to progress at the European level, they need better.”
It really is an incredible assessment of the central defensive pairing after a defeat that was more about the quality coming off the bench than it was about how shaky the centre of defence was.
CCV and Starfelt had built a strong partnership and kept four clean sheets out of five domestically before the big Swede succumbed to injury.
And the reaction to his column was met with derision amongst the Hoops fans
