‘It’s on the SFA’ – Former SPL CEO Roger Mitchell lays down the gauntlet after Celtic stato’s analysis on Rangers’ penalty stats

For those that haven’t seen or heard of it yet, Rangers’ penalty stats compared to Celtic‘s really are incredible.

The brilliant Alan Morrison of Celtic by Numbers and The Huddle Breakdown appeared on the Graham Spiers podcast this week to calmly discuss how difficult it is for Rangers’ opponents to win a penalty against the Ibrox side.

Here is the crux of Alan’s superb observations:

When the facts are laid as simply and succinctly as that it is hard for anyone to argue that there is something not quite right at how Rangers seem to be immune to being penalised by VAR with spot kicks.

And former SPL CEO Roger Mitchell weighed into the debate by laying down a challenge to the SFA.

Mitchell said, “Made exactly this point a few weeks ago. The burden of proof now has shifted.

“It’s on the SFA and refs to explain. You can’t argue with data sets and stats.”

There is absolutely no chance the SFA will touch this debate with the proverbial bargepole.

They cannot be seen to be entertaining the idea that their officials are seen to be biased for any team in the SPFL never mind Rangers.

I fear this will be an issue that never gets resolved in Scottish football but as long as people like Alan Morrison are on the case, you just never know.
