Celtic referee Don Robertson placed ‘on the watch list’ after St Mirren win

Celtic secured a 1-0 win over St Mirren with Don Robertson officiating, but the post-match focus shifted quickly away from the result and onto a highly critical assessment of the referee’s performance.

The result itself was straightforward. Celtic collected three points in a tight contest where control of key moments proved decisive.

That should have been the dominant narrative. Instead, attention moved toward a reaction that escalated beyond a standard critique of officiating in a single fixture after ACSOM’s Paul John Dykes criticised Don Robertson’s performance.

Don Robertson’s Celtic performance vs St Mirren ‘rotten’

The criticism was explicit, with Paul John leaving no doubt in his assessment of Robertson’s performance.

Paul John said on A Celtic State of Mind: “I’ve seen some of the decisions that were made in relation to these games. I’m not going to labour it because I thought our officials were bad enough.

“Never mind looking at the other officials from other games. By the way, that referee was horrific at the weekend for Celtic. He’s one to watch. I wrote his name down. He’s on the watch list. He’s one to watch. Absolutely rotten performance.”

Celtic supporters have raised wider concerns around refereeing and VAR in the SPFL.

The SFA has also been involved in controversy with Celtic in the past.

Celtic win highlights ongoing officiating debate

Celtic won the match with Don Robertson in charge, but the reaction afterwards ensured attention moved away from the result.

The criticism did not break down specific incidents from the game. It stood as a broad judgment on the overall performance.

That left the discussion centred on perception rather than isolated decisions, with the referee becoming the main talking point after full-time.
