The SFA are coming in for some heavy fire, and for once, it’s not coming from anyone connected to Celtic.
The national association had to embarrassingly sack Alan Muir after high-profile Celtic VAR mistakes made his position untenable.
Celtic fans have long raised issues with how VAR seems to continually penalise the Parkhead club whilst another club across the city seems to emerge unscathed over 90 minutes from the video refereeing technology.
But as the furore seemed to be dying down, former SFA referee Steve Conroy has come out swinging and said that another high-profile referee should also follow the same fate as Muir.
John Beaton roasted by former SFA referee after receiving high-profile Celtic game
John Beaton is loathed by Celtic fans up and down the country and considering his past record at refereeing games involving the Parkhead club Conroy is amazed he has not been sacked and blasted the SFA for rewarding his refereeing and VAR mistakes.
Conroy told The Ref’s View, “My issue with it is that if they see fit to sack him for that and that’s that’s up to them, you have to draw the line somewhere. You have one absolutely shocking decision then somebody has a word with you and you have another absolutely shocking decision, where else do you go?
“But it shouldn’t be one rule for one and one rule for another and you know who I’m talking about with it who has been just as bad as as Alan has every bit as bad, but he gets rewarded with a League Cup final appearance this season and he was given two games for the the weekend.
“So I’m not disputing that Allan had to go if that’s the decision but if that’s the line in the sand then it has to be the line in the sand for everybody.”
John Beaton is a Rangers fan. Of that, there is absolutely no doub,t and because of that, he should not be allowed anywhere near games involving the Glasgow clubs.
But as it stands, he seems untouchable and regardless of past Celtic mistakes Beaton has made, he is still allowed to referee our games.
The sooner he is removed from SFA duties, the better, as it is clear that from Conroy’s assertion, Beaton is not fit to be the country’s top referee.
