‘Impossible’ – ‘Well respected’ journalist shares why the Scottish media won’t touch huge Rangers SFA story

Celtic Park

All the talk this week has been about the most recent A Celtic State of Mind special where Alan Morrison expertly dived into the pattern of assistance that has benefitted Rangers over the last few seasons.

Not one, or two seasons, but ever since Crawford Allan came into power at the SFA as national association’s Head of Referees.

The number of patterns of assistance that Allan has overseen during his time is extremely coincidental as the Celtic fans become extremely exasperated at the continuous favourable decisions the Ibrox club always seem to get.

Even pundits are getting fed up with it and after Michael Stewart’s superb rant last night, it seems the Scottish media are now waking up. Or are they?

Scottish media don’t want to ‘upset’ Rangers fans

As I said earlier, Alan Morrison delivered a superb recount of the amount of favourable decisions Rangers have been getting since 2020.

And whilst he presented his findings on A Celtic State of Mind, the analyst shared what a ‘well respected’ journalist told him as to why the media won’t touch his findings.

Morrison said (A Celtic State of Mind), “Various members of the media were offered the opportunity to publish because I don’t want to be rude, Paul, but I don’t actually want to be here.

“I’m not saying that because I don’t want to spend time with you, obviously I do and I do regularly, it’s the fact that I would rather that this data and and information was presented in the public domain rather than in a Celtic podcast, but here we are.

“And the reason for that was that I was informed by a very well respected, well-known journalist who covers Scottish football, comprehensively, that the information I had, would be impossible to print in Scotland because of commercial considerations.

“Think about that. What I didn’t get right was it’s partisan or it’s unfair or it’s unbalanced or it’s inaccurate or that it’s clearly not in the public interest.

“But no, commercial considerations. Various media partners in Scotland don’t want to upset other stakeholders in Scotland, and therefore, this information has to be put out there through a Celtic podcast and I’m glad it’s ACSOM and I’m glad it’s here, but that’s not how I wanted to do it.”

That’s quite incredible. The Scottish media are compliant in not exposing a serious flaw in our game and the failure of the SFA to correct it.

So what does that mean? Are the SFA actively aiding Rangers in their quest to catch Celtic? Or are they, just like John Beaton is said to be, incompetent? Or are they just like the Scottish media and too scared to upset the blue half of Glasgow for fear of ramifications?

I’ll let you make up your mind on that but one thing is for sure, the Scottish media’s clear failure to investigate this massive issue in Scotland is the reason why fan media is thriving and the mainstream print media is dying on its proverbial @rse.

  1. If what you say is true and I’m getting the gist of your fine piece, then it means that there are organisations currently active in one way or another in Scottish football who donate money through various sponsorship deals only on the proviso that the Rangers get preferencial treatment over every other club up and down the country …..would that cover it ? And the SMSM won’t touch the story with a Geranium for any number of reasons ? God help us all !
