Brendan Rodgers told he has a Celtic player he must unleash against Rangers at Ibrox

Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers has been told that he must unleash Matt O’Riley for the Glasgow Derby Rangers game at Ibrox next month.

The Govan clash will play a huge part in helping decide the destination of the league title and Rodgers has been told that to win the clash, allowing O’Riley a free role will help the Celtic manager do just that.

Speaking on A Celtic State of Mind, Kevin McCluskie was talking up the Danish international and believes he will key in securing a Derby result.

Matt O’Riley can destroy Rangers

The 23-year-old has been superb for Celtic over the past two seasons. In 12 appearances against Rangers, O’Riley has won eight, drew two and lost two.

In that, the Dane has created five assists as he helped put the Ibrox club to the sword. [Transfermarkt]

And McCluskie wants O’Riley to be given a free role against them in April.

McCluskie said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I think it’s quite simple, for me, going into the games, if they are all fit at the moment, Iwata, McGregor, O’Riley and Hatate coming in off the bench.

“I would play him [Iwata] for that defensive stability he gives you in the base of the midfield and then with McGregor, you can either go him as an eight or a six and can be the double pivot with Iwata if you need him.

“And O’Reilly’s just a beautiful human being who can do whatever he wants. As long as he’s fit enough, he can just do whatever he wants on that football Park.

“And you know that he’s good enough to unlock any defence in this country when he’s on form.”

Fingers crossed that Rodgers takes heed of this advice because how sweet would it be to take another three points from Rangers to go potentially four points clear at the top with another Parkhead derby to go?

  1. Not Govan, Ibrox. Govan has a lot of Celtic Supporters who take offence the media title of the Team from Govan. Their stadium is in Ibrox. Please amend this rubbish about Govan. Alex Ferguson’s father ran one of many Supporters’ buses from Govan to Celtic Park. Thanks in advance. H! H!
