‘Wrap him in cotton wool’ – Celtic told it’s vital that there is one player who must be fit for the Rangers game

It’s the international break and the Celtic fans get to take a breather from the domestic game and focus on what’s happening with Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Indeed, there is interest for the fans across other countries as no less than eleven Celtic players travel to be with their countries over this two-week period. [Celtic FC]

The Celtic supporters will be happy though that Cameron Carter-Vickers is not on international duty with the USA.

The defender has been a rock at the heart of the Hoops defence and Celtic have now been told that since he’s not away with the Americans, he must be looked after and kept ready for the Rangers game next month.

Cameron Carter-Vickers needs protected before Ibrox visit

The US defender is so important to Celtic right now. We have seen first-hand how the defence struggles without him and Kevin McCluskey from A Celtic State of Mind believes that now is the time to keep him under wraps.

McCluskie said (A Celtic State of Mind), “It’s great to have Carter-Vickers back. It’s great that when he’s gone off it’s not been through injury. It’s been through, probably, a pre-planned substitution to give them 75 minutes or so and get him off and rested.

“And, fingers crossed, this is him. We’re going to keep them nice and fit. Wrap him in cotton wool over the international break.

“Get through the game against Livingston and have him fit for the game at the beginning of April.”

With Livingston up next, I’m not sure we can leave CCV on the bench. The Almondvale club have proven to be tricky opponents on that synthetic surface and if we drop points against them, then the league title race will be so much more difficult.

However, I do agree with Kevin. CCV does need to be looked after. Give him 45 minutes against David Martindale‘s side and if we have a healthy lead, hook him off.

Travelling to Ibrox without him doesn’t bear thinking about.
