“To be honest” – How Alexandro Bernabei’s Celtic exit could impact Brendan Rodgers’ team

Celtic fullback, Alexandro Bernabei

Alexandro Bernabei’s Celtic exit has left Brendan Rodgers with a dilemma at the left fullback position.

This was an area of the team that was already identified as being one of the weakest at Celtic when Bernabei was still at the club.

But now, we could be at a disadvantage as the games tick down in the race for the league title.

But it seems that Celtic won’t be any worse off after letting Bernabei leave on loan. That’s according to Brian Degnin from A Celtic State of Mind.

Celtic won’t suffer from the loss of Alexandro Bernabei

With Greg Taylor as the only recognised left-sided wing-back, the Celtic manager may have taken a gamble on letting Alexandro Bernabei leave Celtic for Brazil this week. But that’s not viewed as an issue.

Degnin said (A Celtic State of Mind), “Well, to be honest, I don’t know how great he was as a backup anyway. So I don’t think we’re hugely worse off, to be honest.

“I actually thought he would have done well under Rodgers. I thought he had a really good pace and would have been preferred as a more traditional wing-back Greg Taylor really isn’t.

“I thought Rodgers would have liked that pace, tracking back, crosses into the box. But it’s never worked out for the lad.

“And I think it was clear it was never going to feature. But I don’t think we are particularly weaker without him, to be honest.

“So for me, it’s not a particularly huge loss.”

I have to be honest. I agree with Brian here. Bernabei was a bomb scare with many of his performances for Celtic labelled as ‘mad’.

And whilst the Celtic fans were split on how they felt about the departure of the Argentine, there is no doubt that the heart-in-mouth moments we had when Bernabei played will be a welcome miss by the Hoops support.
