Celtic’s away trip to Motherwell on Sunday will tell the fans one of two things. Either the team are up for this title fight or they have completely given up the ghost.
I, for one, hope it’s the fight they are up for and the game at Fir Park will tell us a lot about where this team are.
Slow, tepid football has been the order of the day this season for the Celtic team and after the chorus of boos at full-time in the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, the team and Brendan Rodgers knows exactly how the fans are feeling.
But despite that, the Celtic manager was relatively positive in his latest press conference
Brendan Rodgers upbeat despite poor Celtic results
The Celtic manager was still in a bullish mood when a journalist asked how important is it to get back to winning ways as Rangers could go five points ahead tomorrow.
Rodgers said [Celtic YouTube], “It’s just getting back to ensure we focus on ourselves because, like I said, we can’t we can’t control anything that Rangers or any other team does
“So I’ve said it all season we can only focus on our own performance. We are not top of the league because of ourselves and the points that we’ve dropped.
“So we have to learn from them and we have to be focused very much on our own performance and that’s what the next 12 games will be because it’s still in our hands.”
Celtic fans have a simple message for Brendan Rodgers
And after hearing what Rodgers had to say, it seems the fans are really up for this fight. And the comments in this YouTube thread say it all.
The first message was pretty simple, “3 points is a must hail hail.” whilst others told Rodgers to start building momentum, “Focus on taking the points on Sunday and build momentum. Up the intensity and kick on. Centre Half’s must take the ball and drive on. Create spaces.“
Another fan had a very simple take on the rest of the season, “Win every game and we win the double. Not about what anyone else does.” whilst another just wants to see the team fight more, “Players need to stop feeling sorry for themselves. Show some fight. Go on and win this league. Come on Celtic.”
Dermot Desmond and the board got a wee message as well, “Dermot Desmond needs to sell up and let the club be run with a clear vision and some ambition. He’s the biggest problem Celtic faces and is the backstop behind ‘the world’s toughest negotiator’ Peter Lawwell; Desmond is not absentee enough.”
And the last fan echoed what I have been saying over the last couple of days, “Tell you something winning the league this year Will be sweeter than any in the past !”
So despite the grumblings and the booing of last week, the fans are still behind Rodgers.
Over to you Brendan.
