‘He’s had his chance’ – Celtic player told he needs to leave in January

Celtic does need a clearout when the January window opens in a couple of weeks time.

The Parkhead club have a bloated squad filled with players who simply don’t have enough quality to take the club forward.

And one has been told that January will be the perfect time to go. Mikey Johnston has seen himself brought in from the cold after injuries to Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada forced Brendan Rodgers to tap into his reserves.

For the best will in the world, Johnston failed to grasp his chances against Hibs, St Johnstone, Motherwell and now Hearts and he’s been told by Paul John Dykes that he needs to leave the club.

Dykes said, “On the other side, [Mikey] Johnston, he’s had his chance. His chance has come and gone.

“Come January you put him out on loan or if you can find him a permanent destination he moves on. That’s it done.” (A Celtic State of Mind)

I wish it was different. I even wished for Johnston to return from his successful loan spell in Portugal and willed him to become a success at Celtic.

But after eight seasons, there has to come a time where you need to admit that you are flogging a dead horse.

And that is exactly what Celtic are doing to Johnston. Every game he plays, he doesn’t produce. And every time he doesn’t produce he gets criticised.

Enough is enough. For the club and especially the player, it’s time to call it a day and allow Johnston to progress his career elsewhere.
