Yeah, it’s not really a surprise is it?
Incompetence? Honest mistake? Cheating? I am loathe to use the last one. In fact, considering where he spends his time pre match, it is no wonder Celtic fans reckon John Beaton has it in for our club.
But when you see so many inconsistencies in one referee’s performance, is it just poor standards or something completely different?
As it turns out, Maeda’s chalked off goal never really made much of a difference to last nights comprehensive 3-0 victory against Dundee United but what if it did?
What if another refereeing error cost Ange Postecoglou the chance of a domestic treble in his first season in charge of Celtic?
Whatever you want to call it, Beaton either needs to stop being given Celtic games to referee because of the conflict of interests or brush up on the rules of the game.
Neither will happen of course, and until there is fundamental change in the refereeing set up (or VAR) then these honest mistakes will be allowed to continue.
But these Celtic fans were unhappy at the ref, and who can blame them:
