This was quite a stunning admission. As the majority of pundits, players and managers all agreed, the Jota handball was not a penalty.
According to the rules of the game, a deliberate handball is only if the hand/arm moves towards the ball or moving towards the path of the ball. It’s all here from the official IFAB rules.
So the referee made the correct decision by applying the rules of the game right?
Yes, and ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett, admits that but says he would STILL have awarded the penalty against Jota for a late handball against Dundee.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett said, “That’s a clear handball, wow,
“I think he knows what he’s doing there. The ball has come off his head and onto his arm.
“The referee has interpreted the law and decided it’s not a penalty.
“I’m giving that if I’m the referee.”
So Hackett would have ignored the rules and given it? Even though Jota headed the ball onto his hand?
It’s worth noting that Hackett is also a Rangers columnist at Ibrox News but I’m sure that had absolutely nothing to do with his opinion here.
Nothing at all.
Ah! You have spotted the bigot from down South.
