What Brendan Rodgers was heard doing to a Celtic player from the dugout who ‘ran himself into the ground’ vs Sporting CP

A number of players impressed in Celtic’s win over Sporting CP.

Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to end this part of Celtic’s pre-season preparations with a win over the current Portuguese champions.

The Celtic manager was delighted with his team’s performance as Rodgers got to run the rule over more of his Hoops first-team.

But there was one player who got the full helping hand of Rodgers after ACSOM’s Paul John Dykes heard what the Celtic boss was doing on the sidelines at the Estadio Algarve.

Brendan Rodgers helped Johnny Kenny through Celtic’s win vs Sporting CP

Dykes said on A Celtic State of Mind, “Johnny Kenny’s our second choice, and Callum Osmand is our third choice as it stands.

“Because obviously, Maeda is starting on the left wing because we’ve got no other wingers. We’re going for having millions of wingers, today wingers.

“So I’m looking at Johnny Kenny tonight, and basically, if I’m the manager, and by the way, I heard Brendan Rodgers talking to him through the game. Well, shouting to him through the game.

“Absolutely all the way through the game, Johnny, he’s telling him about positioning, he’s telling him to close down.

“There’s probably, I don’t know, seven or eight minutes to go near the end of the game there and Kenny’s got nothing left. He has literally ran himself into the ground

“He wins the penalty and he gets the assist for McCowan’s second goal. Now, he can’t do any more than that.”

Kenny has certainly played his way into Rodgers’ plans for the upcoming Newcastle game at Celtic Park.

It will be interesting to see how the Parkhead boss plays it on Saturday.
