Celtic fans are not daft as they watch the Scottish media fawn over Rangers hiring Barry Ferguson.
Not one outlet has questioned the former EBT recipient’s credibility or managerial ability to take Rangers on and challenge Celtic or at least close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Ferguson has never managed anywhere near the top echelons of Scottish football but all that doesn’t seem to matter as the former Rangers captain takes the second-biggest job in Scotland.
With Celtic facing Aberdeen tonight, Brendan Rodgers has the chance to increase the gap from Rangers to 16 points as the Celtic manager looks to wrap up the title as early as possible.
Rangers face Kilmarnock in Ayrshire tomorrow night and if they lose that game then the pressure is piled immediately onto a relatively inexperienced manager.
And that fact has not been lost on former Arsenal defender, Martin Keown.
Martin Keown slaughters Barry Ferguson’s managerial history as Celtic stand on the brink of a treble
Keown told talkSPORT, “I’m concerned that has he got the necessary credentials?
“You know, okay, he’s been a top player at the football club but where has he managed Jim, Alloa?
“Does that give him the necessary tools to do this job in the way that they want, or is it just a case of ‘Okay, let’s bring in one of their own’.
“It looks very much like that. That’s the case, isn’t it? Go back to players who represented the club.
“In a way, if he’s working in the media, it would be no different than bringing me in to take over a top job somewhere, but it seems a bit strange.
“You say in Europe, I know you’ve got Fenerbahçe in the next round. So it’s a huge task, but Rangers with their history would be pretty well looking forward to this.”
Keown, like the Celtic supporters, are not daft when it comes to looking at football objectively and in a single statement, the former Arsenal man has just shamed the Scottish media for their lack of objectivity surrounding this bizarre appointment.
