Philippe Clement’s reason for Rangers bottling it today will have Celtic fans in tears

Celtic fans must have thought Rangers were definitely closing the gap affer the Hibs defeat today.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were not at the races at Easter Road in a first half that saw Celtic go in at the break 2-0 down.

VAR robbed Celtic of a point against Hibs which meant that Philippe Clement had a golden chance to reduce the gap at the top of the table to 10 points.

Rangers blew it and despite VAR giving them a helping hand, the lost 2-0 at Ibrox against The Buddies in another embarrassing display.

Clement’s Rangers excuse will make Celtic fans cringe

Celtic supporters love a Clement press conference because like Forrest Gump and a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.

Today, the box of chocolates was filled with a superb surprise for the Celtic support.

Clement told Sky Sports, “Everybody saw the team was nervous today.

“Was it that they wanted to do too good, react and give the fans much more?

“We need to look at the root of the problem and speak with the team about that. At the end, it is my responsibility to get them with the right mindset on the pitch.

“I can only say sorry and apologise [to the Rangers fans] from me and the team. This is not what Rangers teams need to show on the pitch. We all know this was by far below the standards we all expect.

“I’m always fighting until the end. My task is to get the team in the right mindset. That was not the case today. I need to find a solution for that.”

Imagine if Rodgers uttered those words after Celtic dropped points. There would be uproar in the Parkhead stands.

Nervous? It was St Mirren Rangers were playing not Real Madrid. What did they have to nervous about?

I mean I know Paisley is full of crackpots but Clement was in his own back garden.

If Rangers are nervous now just imagine how they will feel coming to Celtic Park in just a few weeks time?
