The Champions League trophy which Celtic won in 1967

Brendan Rodgers makes Bayern Munich legend look like a fool after what he previously said about Celtic going to the Allianz Arena

Brendan Rodgers took Celtic within a whisker of creating Champions League history against Bayer Munich.

The Celtic manager endured a painful Champions League lesson after Bayern scored with virtually the last kick of the ball to draw 1-1 on the night and put Celtic out of the competition 3-2 on aggregate.

The Hoops silenced many doubters who believed that the Scottish champions might as not well not turn up for the two leg. But Rodgers had other ideas.

After Bayern escaped from Celtic Park with a 2-1 win, former player, Markus Babbel made a prediction that now looks extremely foolish.

Bayern legend Markus Babbel’s Celtic prediction slaps him in the face

Babbel was uber-confident that his old club would win the two-legged tie that he made this bold prediction prior to the Allianz Arena clash.

Babbel said about Celtic’s chances against Bayern Munich, “Of course, it’ll be a tough game for Bayern at Celtic Park on Wednesday night – it’s not easy there, it’ll be loud, so it’ll be hard for Bayern.

“But at home next week, they will be too strong for Celtic. They have too much quality. I can’t believe that Celtic will qualify for the next round.

“It won’t be a result like Borussia Dortmund’s 7-1 win against Celtic earlier this season, but across two games Bayern will win comfortably.

“And for me, as I said, they are one of the top favourites that can win the Champions League this season – now that they’ve reached the knockout stages, they can go all the way and win the competition under Vincent Kompany.”

Babbel would have been better at just being humble and keeping these stupid thoughts to himself because as Rodgers and Celtic proved, it’s best to be silent and let people think your stupid than open your mouth and prove you are.
